| Is Your Indoor Air Quality Harming Your Health? Your home's well-insulated construction may be harming the health of everyone living inside. According to Scientific American, a baby crawling around a typical house inhales the chemical equivalent of 3 cigarettes per day! This is a result of the carpet fumes, mildews, fungi, bacteria, dust mites, and other indoor air pollutants that so many of us forget exist. Your House isn't as clean as you think! The average home collects about two pounds of dust per week and EPA studies have found that indoor air is 2 to 10 more times hazardous than outdoor air. We live in a society that everyday we are sparing no expense in looking for ways to improve our health through such things such as monthly gym memberships, bottled water, diet plans and diet pills. We breath in approximately 15,000 quarts of air each day, so why not take similar measures to improve the air we breath which in turn could help improve our health? How can you and your family stop living with all of these hazards and start breathing easier? Simple! Just call 919-777-9777 today and ask for the Clean Indoor Air Alliance (CIA2) Home Air Quality Test. A Clean Indoor Air Alliance Specialist from 72 Degrees Heating and Cooling will test the air in your home to determine the level of cleanliness, health and safety of your home’s indoor air. Think About It: Following the oil embargo of 1972 the government began looking for ways in which we could become less dependant on oil. One of the ways they did this was to impose a new building code. By constructing our houses tighter and doing things like wrapping them in special construction material it would require less energy to heat and cool our homes. All of the products that we us to build our homes are made of synthetic materials and all the products we use in our homes are made of chemicals. Take the air fresheners we use to make our homes smell nice and lemony. Does anyone think that there are little old ladies sitting on an assembly line squeezing real lemon into them? No, they are using chemicals to make them smell like lemons. Experiment (for your imagination only!): Get a large bag, add one air freshener, pour in some Tilex liquid floor cleaner, some hair spray, some Pine Sol, and top it off with a shot of Clorox. Now shake it up real good. Now put your mouth and nose over it and breathe in and out for a few minutes. Of course you would never actually try this experiment in reality, but because of how airtight our homes are constructed we are doing this experiment to a certain degree every day. |
